September meeting - Exploring Myself: September 16, 2010

Exploring Myself will aid parents in the challenges of their children growing up and developing an awareness of their bodies and those of others. The presentation will help parents of young children, adolescents and adults and will demonstrate the importance of beginning to teach your child about these topics early. The presentation will focus on the following topics:

· learning about my body

· adolescence and development

· the concepts of personal space, public vs. private

· relationships

Ms Jennifer Campbell is a Certified Special Education Teacher. She has been with Clear Creek ISD for 10 years as a Special Education teacher at Clear Creek High School and in a district-wide position as an Instructional Specialist. Ms Campbell has a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology earned from UHCL.

Legal issues involved in safeguarding the future of your special needs child

Lisa Wilson, an attorney with 13 years experience in special needs estate planning and guardianship, will discuss government benefit programs, guardianship and special needs trusts. Lisa is a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center and is the parent of a 22 year old daughter with Down Syndrome.
