Robert Schoen, PhD, President of Research Down Syndrome, will present on the Foundation’s dual mission of enhancing awareness of Down syndrome cognitive research and raising funds to support these efforts. He will provide an update on the progress and promise of Down syndrome cognitive research, including a summary of promising drug targets identified by researchers at Johns Hopkins University, Stanford University and the University of California, San Diego. These drug targets provide the promise of the development of biomedical therapies that could improve memory and learning in persons with Down syndrome. Dr. Schoen received his Doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in Human Genetics/Cell Biology.

Paul Watson, father of an eight year-old son with Down syndrome, will join Dr. Schoen and provide a parent perspective on the cognitive research and connect it to other advocacy efforts in education, employment, and inclusion. Mr. Watson works as a fundraiser and collaborative partner with researchers and charities. He also serves on 3 Texas state committees for special education.
